Atrus was born on Ixion (scene of the infamous Crowning Day Massacre) in 928 AE to Marta Kolak and Siegroy Bellarus Haitius, Heads of clan Haitius.

A grizzled veteran of The Solesian conflict, he rose in the ranks from a simple deck-officer aboard the then Antarean Federated Navy aboard the battleship Secundus Reclamatus to Squadron Commander by the end of the conflict. Within the navy he was and still is regarded as a master of long-range harassment and even published a book, Know Thy Enemy: A Treatise on Logistical Disruption, which is still widely consulted some sixty years later.

After the war, Atrus returned to his capital at Ixion and married his long-term partner Mehra. Together they had a son, Reus Haitius, and a daughter named Amma Hatius, both of whom were keen followers in their father's martial tradition.
