The EVR is Avex's answer to the P6i assault rifle from Salier. In their attempts to break into the atmospheric weaponry market, they leveraged their considerable experience with magnetic accelerators to create a range of magnetic weapons. The EVR is the latest attempt by Avex to steal Salier's crown as main supplier for AIA infantry weapons. While the EVR has incredibly low recoil and obscene damage output for a rifle of its capabilities, Avex still haven't managed to improve heat dissipation in their man-portable designs.
The EVR uses the proprietary Avex 8mm UB class ammunition to achieve its delivery of plasma packets. It can consume multiple 8mm UB rounds per shot to produce a heavier, harder hitting plasma packet that is more effective against vehicles.
It can fire around 21 rounds in full auto mode before being forced into a cooldown mode which cracks the barrel open and exposes the magnetic rails to the atmosphere to speed up heat dissipation. This makes the weapon useless for several seconds before it can be fired again. The heat output is a major limitation for the EVR's design, and causes much more thermal stress on the parts in a shorter period of time than a traditional firearm.
The EVR is not a subtle weapon either. Avex still hasn't found a way to silence the considerable noise it makes while firing and in addition to this there is a distinctly audible whine immediately before the weapon is fired as the capacitors charge up.
Despite all of these shortcomings, it still proves to be invaluable and versatile, if rare.
The sheer expense and difficulty of maintenance has restricted the EVR's use to special forces and heavy shock troops in the AIA. While the EVR is certainly a superior anti-infantry weapon under the right conditions versus the P6i, the P6i's versatility and low cost keeps it in the hands of most of the AIA's forces.
