RID 80mm SLAP (Sabot-Launched, Armor Piercing) rounds are designed to complete the circuit between the two rails of the RID. The sabot that deploys the round is what completes the circuit to use lorentz force and accelerate the projectile to lethal speeds. The RID SLAP rounds use a titanium-tungsten alloy core to maximize armor-piercing capabilities and have a special outer layer that deforms and breaks away, imparting the massive amount of kinetic energy upon impact while the core itself penetrates.
The round, as it is loaded, is suspended briefly by magnetic forces before being induced into the rails.
