The ULA's standard issue GAR 8.13x56mm FMJ cartridge. Used by the DK-11A assault rifle and other mainstay ULA weapons. The GAR class is a caseless ammunition meaning the case burns up together with the quintite charge and round for saving space.
The GAR is easily the most commonly found and purchased rounds in the periphery of United League space, much like how common the .223 cartridge was around on Old Earth. It is sometimes said that more GAR rounds have been made than all other ammunition types combined, but this claim is likely a common misconception. But the fact remains that the GAR round has been used extensively, it is said no ULA force has ever left without firing at least one magazine.
Several variants of the GAR ammunition exist for different purposes
- GAR AP Magnum: Overpressured propellant and hardened core improve overall damage and penetration properties. Requires heavier barrel. Used with TS20. - GAR FMJ: Milspec variant of GAR ammunition Outer shell of the round is hardened with a softer core. Less penetration than AP but flattens inside targets to increase soft-tissue damage. Commonly used by DK11A and all variants. - GAR T2: Civilian round with normal core and single-step primer, tumbles more, penetrates less, commonly used on the A420 'Boxer'
