Overview

The Kingdom of Mournecreek has been a naval power since its colonization nearly seven-hundred years ago in addition to being one of the key signatories of the original League charter, the Kingdom is wealthy beyond measure, possessing one of the strongest national navies of all the signatories. Likewise, its influence within the political and military structure of the ULP is enormous, with over 37% of the USN, ULA, and ULAC hailing from SKM worlds.

Political Structure

The Kingdom operates under a Matriarchy in which the Queen presides over a parliament composed of representatives from vassal worlds. The House of Lords is primarily composed of members of the ruling families (who have life terms) and is mostly limited to passing civil laws and other social changes. The House of Commons, on the other hand, is populated by elected representatives from all across the kingdom and holds the power of the purse, deciding budgets, appropriation, military spending, and negotiating trade agreements. Only through a unanimous vote in the commons can a declaration of war be made. Though this arrangement would appear to weaken the royal family, the Queen, through her ministers, is capable of vetoing nearly any bill that passes the Lord’s assembly.

Social Climate

The worlds governed by the Kingdom are, for the most part, prosperous and well populated, benefiting from the strength of the Queen’s navy and the safety and trading power provided by the League itself. Though much outside criticism is leveled at its somewhat archaic form of government, there is little debate over its stability and strength throughout the six centuries of its existence.
