Sierra gas mining station is a very large shielded colony in the upper ionosphere of Layleth 1, a so called hot-gaint type planet. So close is this gas planet to its sun that matter from the gaint and star get flung into space violently. This material is then captured and refined to very pure fusion fuel. The fuel is cooled and compressed for storage and eventually transport out of system.

Given its proximity to the star, the station has to be shielded all the time or risk toasting everyone onboard. Specially shielded bulk transport ships have been made for the colony to transport the fuel, and bring supplies for the station. Shielding the station was quite the challenge to engineers to provide a secure, stabile and powerfull enough shield generator, powered by solar energy.

A large percentage of the civilian used fuel comes from Sierra station, however its inhabitants are certainly not rich. Multiple companies operate out of Sierra and have had a race to sell the cheapest, with only small margins left for the personel involved. On the other hand Layleth fuel is known to be cheap and good qualty at the same time.
